ARCHIVING OF THE WORKS
The Karl Plattner Archive registers all works created by the artist from 1945 to 1986 at its headquarters. It is the only institution authorised to issue certificates of authenticity for his works.
With the exception of prints, which are nevertheless accepted and included in the inventory, the Karl Plattner Archive offers a free service for the authentication of his works on canvas, wood and paper, and which are archived according to the process outlined below:
-
The owners of the works can make contact with the Karl Plattner Archive initially by sending an e-mail to info@karlplattnerarchivio.com, stating personal details (first and last name, address and telephone number) and a minimum of information about the works that they wish to have archived (year of execution, dimensions and provenance). In addition, copies of any authenticity documents previously issued by Karl Plattner or by other persons as well as photographs of the works themselves (one of the front, one of the back and a close-up photograph of the signature) should be enclosed.
-
After checking the documents provided, the Karl Plattner Archive will contact the owners of the works and outline for each individual case the procedure to be followed so that the definitive archiving of the works can be carried out, or, in the case of known or already registered works, to update the information available in the archive.
-
In order to facilitate the updating and organisation of the data concerning the works, owners are kindly requested to fill in the form available on this portal in full and return it to the Karl Plattner Archive. This portal can also be used to initiate the registration of works and to authorise the Karl Plattner Archive to process the applicants' personal data.
The Karl Plattner Archive guarantees the highest level of confidentiality in the processing of personal data.
-
In the case of works that have already been archived, an additional check and/or update of the data available in the Karl Plattner Archive can be carried out on the basis of the completed form. After the purchase and sale of works, the new owners are requested to inform the Karl Plattner Archive in order to enable the continuous updating of the database and of the relevant historical catalogues of the individual works registered.
PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIAL
If the Karl Plattner Archive does not already possess images of the front and back of the works which are suitable for publication, the owners of the works are requested to submit the following material in professional quality:
-
a digital colour photograph (CMYK) of the front (recto) of the work without frame or protective cover and visible in its entirety;
-
a digital colour photograph of the back (verso) of the work and visible in its entirety;
-
a digital colour close-up of the signature;
-
a digital colour close-up of other writings or dedications, stamps or labels and other relevant details.
All of the above must be carried out by a professional photographer and provided without reproduction rights. The photographs must have a baseline (or height) of at least 25 cm; a resolution of 300 dpi; be in JPEG, EPS or TIFF format; preferably without a border, rectangular and on a white background.
DIRECT EXAMINATION OF THE WORKS
Before issuing any certificates of authenticity, the Karl Plattner Archive may, if necessary, request direct examination of the works; these must be delivered without frame or protective cover to the headquarters of the Karl Plattner Archive in Bolzano, Kapuzinergasse 26A.
The works must be handed over by the owners or by an authorised representative with written power of attorney and left with the Karl Plattner Archive for the period of time necessary for their examination.
CERTIFICATES OF AUTHENTICITY
The certificates of authenticity issued by the Karl Plattner Archive are produced in the format of a plastic-laminated colour print 21 x 29 cm.
Under no circumstances will the Karl Plattner Archive issue certificates of authenticity for works for which the material provided does not meet the required quality or for which no proper archiving procedure has been initiated.
The certificates of archiving and authenticity issued must accompany the works at each change of ownership.
